SOUTH ASIA ESSAY CONTEST
Individuals in Action: The Role of Common Citizens in Transforming South Asia
The objective of the South Asia essay contest is to invite ideas for action by common people to transform their own societies: Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Pakistan and India.
The essay should address the question: What can be done to transform the society in order to overcome the problems of corruption, injustice and inefficiency in the delivery of public goods? The essay should discuss the actions an individual or small group can take to bring about transformation. The essay should not consider the actions that large organisations can undertake given their greater resources.
The essay should reflect the reality and the experiences of society in any of the South Asian countries along with ideas or actions for change. The essay should be forward looking and explore initiatives for the future.
Prizes:
First Prize: US$ 1000
Two Second Prizes: US$ 500 each
Certificate of Merit: Top five entries from each South Asian Country
Top five entries from non -resident community
Terms and Conditions
The contestants must be above 18 years of age.
The contest is open to all citizens of Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Pakistan and India. It is also open to non-resident South Asians.
The contestants can fill the entry form or provide the following information:
Full name
Age
Nationality
Address
Telephone number with ISD/STD code
Profession
Education level
Email ID
Entries without this information will be invalid.
Essays should be written in English. They should be typed in Times New Roman, font size 12 in Microsoft Word.
A word-limit of 1500-2500 words should be strictly adhered to. This excludes footnotes and bibliography, if any.
Each essay must reflect the contestant's own experience and original thinking and should not be, in whole or in part, copied from other published works. Contestants agree to indemnify Strategic Foresight Group in case of any third party copyright infringement with respect to their respective entry.
Essays need not be technical or very academic, although they should be serious in content, tone, and style. Essays may contain references, but should not have too many footnotes.

The last date for the submission of entries is December 31, 2004.
Only one entry per person will be accepted.
Winners will be personally notified and also announced on our web site in February 2005.
Contestants in this contest agree that the decision of the panel of judges will be final. Any dispute regarding the winning entries will not be entertained.
The winning entries will be published on our website, as well as, partner websites/publications.
All submissions become the property of Strategic Foresight Group. SFG will have the right to reproduce all or any part of the entries, with due credit to the writer.
Current and previous employees and people associated with Strategic Foresight Group and International Centre for Peace Initiatives are ineligible to participate in the contest.
