Washington neo-cons are murmuring on possible warfare against Iran and Vice-President Cheney seems to be on the hot spotlight taking care of business, on where he left off in Iraq. At the brink of the British election where Conservatives and Liberal Dems are pushing Tony Blair at greater heights, will Tony Blair back President Bush once again, or will he be strong enough to stand against US supremacy as his own political future is at stake?
In my humble opinion, I think it will be a big mistake to invade Iran when British officials with the help of the EU diplomats are pushing Iran for talks to halt is weapons programs on a more diplomatic boundary. Although it hasn't had much of an effect in the past months, I believe that rushing into war will be a fatal mistake as we saw in Iraq where now the US military is increasingly being pushed on a more guerilla-warfare. And also Iran is a bit too far from Iraq which will bring mass public outburst against US.
The US military has already been extended largely and now to strike against Iran will bring back Vietnam without doubt. I also think that the US should go for UN sanctions against Iran rather than increasingly making its precedent on pre-emptive actions with a chip on its shoulders to strike first and ask questions later. At this light, US foriegn policy seems vastly more dangerous to world stability. Whats the use of the United Nations if US were to act alone when they can and raise boundaries on more and more pre-emptions?
I am not a person who doesn't believe on pre-emptive actions either. I believe pre-emptive action is necessary and if its urgent, then its just another way of saying self-defence, provided there was plenty of time for decision making. And in the case of Iraq and now Iran, the US has had plenty of time for making decisions, and still its pursuing policies that are the worst ones. Why would the US want to go alone, is ofcourse an increasingly difficult question, which even Senator Kerry couldn't understand? However, I think it is foolish at best to try to pursue military actions against Iran.
Like to hear from you guys.
