For the last couple of weeks I have been an avid reader and user of Sajha.com. I have used Sajha on and off in the past but this is probably my longest spell of using it on an almost daily basis. And I see that I am not alone in that regard. A lot of other users practically live in Sajha. Whether it is 6 AM, 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM , 12 AM or 3 AM the sun never sets on Sajha. So what attracts us to Sajha ? What is it that keeps some of us typing till the wee hours of the morning? Love, lust, politics, boredom, creativity - what is it that brings you to Sajha?

My reasons are several fold. First off, it is nice to have continuous virtual company, in the absense of similar physical company. Such is life in the US of A. I only get to hang out with friends and relatives on occasion. It's simply not practical to socialize more often becasue everyone has busy lives. So it nice to be able to come to Sajha and read all kinds of stuff, have fun with the postings and their posters and play a hand of Trivia every so often.

The other thing about Sajha that attracts me is the diversity and versatility of people and their opinions. All the way from 16 year old kids to 40 plus moms and dads. Pro-king, anti-King, no-King, some-King, Girija, Makune, Gyanendra, Prachanda, Baburam everything is kosher. Gender no problem, ethnicity no problem, political persuasion no problem - there is something here for everyone. The passionate discussions and the strongly-held opinions (and the loosely-held ones too - like most of mine ) provide plenty of entertainment and food for thought. There are some very well thought out arguments and plenty of arguments where no thought has been applied at all. All this makes every visit to Sajha at least worth the click on the address bar of my browser if not the hours and hours that I sometimes find myself spending on this site. Forget Mohegan Sun - there is never a dull moment at Sajha.

When I used to visit Sajha a few years ago it was a man's world with the testosterone all too visible. The posters were mostly men trashing each other on political and social issues. I must confess I was one of them too. That now seems to have changed. I see more women engaging in conversations and many of them bring a certain sense grace and glamour to the forum that was previously missing. Of course they bring great ideas and perspectives too.

As for politics, I come to Sajha to have fun with politics (no offense to those who are passionate on the subject). Over the years, I simply have lost the passion for politics, although I still know a thing or two about it. I consider myself a politically moderate person. I do have political persuasions but I can respect those who disagree with me. Which might be why, at the cost of sounding like Clinton, I sometimes wonder if am I the only person who thinks *both* Gyanendra and Girija mean well for the country? It's just that they have made too many bad decisions and don't have the balls to admit their mistakes and take corrective action.

Sajha is a great forum for people to showcase their creativity and people have made good use of it. I am fascinated by the amount of creative writing that I have come across in this forum in the last couple of weeks. Its great to see all this talent and I can only hope that a lot of this eventually makes it way to the publishing houses.

Those are most of my reasons - what are yours?

Hush - Yes, I am in love but with more than Sajha. I guess I am in love with my life, my job, my family, my friends, my gadgets and toys (not in any particular order) - not to mention my country and my passionate countrymen who can't stop fighting each other. You are right, I probably come here to find love, albeit, of a different kind.

But today I am bored and simply here for fun :)

I once visited the sajha a year back. It had a lot of words against each other specially caste and some other which were really dirty and filthy. I was shocked to go thru it since they were really dirty and people were interestingly keeping the thread. Then I wrote a mail to the sajha admin saying that I have nothing to say for your site but some of the contents are really bad. Probably the site is not for the people like me but is your sajha site for such people? I really appreciate his mail - he mailed me back and wrote tht some people are messing up and sajah is not for tht purpose. Then frequently I used to open sajah page. When dada giri used to write his story, tht was really interesting and when I have free time with study, I used to surf the sajha. Plus I found some more information - like credit card things etc etc. Right now I am doing job and I am alone in tht town. So I feel more homely when I go to sajha and read the things in devanagiri lipi. Like 10 mins a day or around that, I spend in sajha and sometimes post some comments too. But friends if you really go through sajah, you will be addict. This is the fact tht I have found and a lot of sajah people have admit in the thread. Anyway have fun with sajha.( this is my knoweldge abt sajha)

I know how disheartening and annoying ethnic slurs can be. But most of those threads are nonsense anyways and I think San does a good job of whacking those threads out when you complain. Plus, like you said, we seem to be seeing less of those these days - lets hope it stays that way.

Man, I haven't been able to figure out the Devnagari typing thing yet. I guess I am too lazy. I wish someone would develop a font where if I typed something in Roman Nepali it would come out in Devnagari. And do my laundry too .... he he

Good luck with your job - uttar uttar pragati hos :)

Captain Headdock, it is really a good practice that removing silly things to improve sajha. Abt devanagiri, you can download unicode from http://www.mpp.org.np/ . You can type in roman and unicode does the laundary. I guess there is one thread for the nepali typing it may be helpful if you go thru it.
