initial couple of weeks its a congenial correspondance(between PRATHIK and ANUBHUTI). everything fine.
(narration) After 2 weeks, poor guy is getting call everyday from Nepal at 6:00am from his parents.
DAD: What the hell is wrong with you? ta k garira chhas? dui (2) hafta bhaisakyo ani taile ahile samma have not made up your mind? taile ANUBHUTI lai bhetis? You know tero didi ko ta (2) hafta ma kura chinera biha bayeko thiyo. I did not even see your mother forget about talking.
PRATHIK: dad.... its not 1950s like your case. may be u rushed my in sister's case. u know what my brother took awful lot of time.
DAD: shut up... . in your brother's case it was because of us. we took time going through proper selection (PRATHIK dunno what the hell it means.. he was grinding his teeth). what are you waiting for? u cannot find one yourself ( PRATHIK felt like shit.. lets not go there 'bout what he was thinkin'..) and u r taking ur sweet time for the one we chose. ur mom is not well. we need to move fast on this.
PRATHIK: i am doing my best dad. i do not want to move too fast. on top of that i am thinking of going for phd. kind of difficult with the added responsibility.
DAD: PhD okey. i was married when i was 14. i had two kids when i had no income. i put both of them to good school with a salary of 546/month. i was still doing my bachelors when u were born [ PRATHIK's thinking dyam dad that was 70s....]. i got three degrees after i had kids so what is the problem[PRATHIK's thinking... dad i dunno how u did it .. but i am getting killed here.. just with one degree and am single] . i took nothing from my parents. now u do not have to worry about food and shelter. I have enough so that u can live here in kathmandu in your own house without problem [PRATHIK's thought... dad.. i do not plan to be in Nepal...] ..
PRATHIK: dad.... what do you want me to do? I have projects due. i teach two classes in the university [ ... damn that assistantship job is killin']. i need to work on research too.. if i cannot publish a paper then its fruitless to apply for PhD.
DAD: here is my deadline. within next 2 weeks you go and meet ANUBHUTI. Talk with her. You are not staying at her place. Stay in hotel. Go there for 1 day and get back to me with your response.
PRATHIK: dad... its gonna spook her off... and its not that she is right next door. i have to fly roughly 3 hours. [ PRATHIK is in east coast. he need to go to mid-west to meet her]. I cannot drive there [approx. 2100 miles] would take me days. i need to teach monday and friday. i have my own classes on thursday and wednesday. Can u wait till spring break that is in a month. can I go then?
DAD: i do not care. u have 2 weeks not a month. treat her well. [PRATHIK's thought dad .. i dunno the place. been there like three times. i do not know her. what do you mean by treat her well?]. Go and respond back. Btw, i am not looking for a no from u. [ PRATHIK's thinking ... dad then why do u want me to go? i do not have a choice do i? u do not want to hear no... ? so why u involving me?]
PRATHIK: dad[building up courage]... risani maaf hos. tara hajur le nai decide garibaksiyo bhane ma kina janu paryo ta?
DAD: gadha.... maile talai question garne chut diyeko hoina. bhane ko kura gar na khurukaa.. kina yeti dherai question maile gareko kaam ma... ma tero bau ki ta mero bau.. [ PRATHIK's thinking dad.. i have been in states for last 10 years. com'on.. gimme a break and stop pushing me around .. but no guts to talk back]
PRATHIK: ma sanga paisa chhaina[ trying to bring up an excuse]. i need probably around $1000. plane ko ticket $300-$400. Hotel $100-$200. gaadi rent garnu paryo...
DAD: teri aama le pahile nai bhaneki thiye.. taile tyo bahana lauchhas bhanera. Tero tyo account ma maile $1500 wire gardi sakeko chhu. gadha.. bau ko aakha ma dhoolo chhalna khojchha. use that credit card and paisa account ma aaye paachi tirnu.
PRATHIK:.. { no escape} haus buba. aarko hafta phone garisiyosh. i will update u.
DAD: Okey.
============After 1 week..[WEDNESDAY].===================
[PRATHIK was awakened by the phone at 6 am. he was grading paper till 5am. picks up the phone. its from home always at 6am sharp]
PRATHIK: daddy ho... darshan.
DAD: taile ticket ra hotel reserve garish?
PRATHIK: daddy... chora lai kusto chha sodhnu chhaina.. pheri tehi kura? Dikka lagi sakyo.. [Honestly, dad do u really care about me?? of course he does. otherwise why would he call up his son every week for last 10 years. PRATHIK even saw his dad cry[he try to hide his tears] when PRATHIK went for boarding school... love of the youngest child]
DAD: chup laag ta. emotional blackmail hoina. [ PRATHIK was thinking it was the other way round]. taile reservation garis?
PRATHIK: hajur. gare. ma friday beluka pugchhu. ani sat saathi chha 5 hrs. ko drive me tya janchhu. ani sunday beluka bhetera. monday farkinchhu. hajur lai munasib lagyo yo kura?
DAD: thik chha.
PRATHIK: maile ANUBHUTI lai bhane ko chhaina ma aaudai chhu bhane ra. I will tell her today.
DAD: taa ta gadha nai hos.... . aasti maile bhane paachi bhannu pardaina. Call her immediately. Her parents already know about it. maile last week nai bhandi sake.
PRATHIK:[admitting mistake] risani maaf hos... k ganrnu... gadha nai chhu...

[ANUBHUTI has a real sweet voice. Two weeks, seven conversations. PRATHIK was kinda.. fallin' for her. He wanted time but anyway it was not in his side. ]
[PRATHIK calls ANUBHUTI. ]
ANUBHUTI: hajur le bhuja junar bho?
PRATHIK: [ thinking .. she screens her calls. she knows i am call'. bhuja,, damn,, in 10 years in US never had bhuja at 9:00 AM. anyway nobody asked him that before. He kind of felt nice. Feeling of belonging]{being polite } bhaisakyo. Ani timile khayau ta?
ANUBHUTI: yup. aaja bihanai class thiyo ani muma le banaisiyo.[ PRATHIK thinking so mum is here with her. did not know that before. nobody told him that before. every conversation is like a puzzle. putting one piece at a time.... ] aahile kaha hoisinchha? class ma ho? mero ta bharkhar class sakiyo. aarko class in 4 hrs. tesaile ma ra sathi haru movie herna jana lageko.[ PRATHIK was thinking... wow excellent time management??? huh!!! movies in between classes.. dyam].
PRATHIK: which movie will u be watching? [ trying to go with the flow.. need to tell her quick...]
ANUBHUTI: aahile ta decide gareko chhaina... we will decide once we get there...
PRATHIK: I do not want to spook you. But need to talk to you 4 important things. timi sanga time chha?
ANUBHUTI: marji hos na! hajur mero buwa jastai bolisinchha.
PRATHIK: firstly, i know u r going through a lot of pressure. I know its too early but can you tell me what u think of me so far? [Prathik still does not know why he asked that question... too early.. knowingly.. 1st mistake]
ANUBHUTI: You are nice. [PRATHINK thinks.. now what the hell does it mean? she being polite. Does she really likes him?][ Prathik has even saved her messages on the phone. total 7 of them left in last 3 days. he was getting fond of her voice.][ does she feel the same or no... ??? PRATHIK DOES NOT HAVE A SWEET VOICE though]
PRATHIK: [ dunno what to say next... should he be persistent for clarification or move on .. .] Secondly, I am thinking for going for PhD. If i do that then for next 3-4 years its a poor life. I am dubious about what to do? What do you think I should do? buba and muma wants me to get married soon. If I do that i do not know how this is going to play out...
ANUBHUTI: PhD garisiyosh. [ short answer... so what does it mean? she is seconding my desire ? or being polite once again]
PRATHIK: thirdly, Do u have somebosy in your life? I mean some other guys? maybe u r just talking to me for being polite.
ANUBHUTI: no nothing like that.
PRATHIK: lastly, i am coming there on friday.. can I meet you on sunday?
ANUBHUTI: hajur [ very shocked].... [ sounds like she could not believe what PRATHIK said]
PRATHIK: i said I will be there from Friday to Monday. I would like to meet with you on Sunday.
ANUBHUTI: [hangs.. up the phone]
PRATHIK: [... shit.. now what should I do. buwa le marji bho i do not want no for an answer. now she hangs up the phone. should i go ahead or not? her parents knows about it. buwa le marji bhathiyo. what should he do???? he was trying to avoid the same situation... ]
Prathik tries to call she does not pick up the phone.
