Koirala gets Bush treatment
By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu , 6 June: Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh set aside protocol to personally greet Girija Prasad Koirala at New Delhi Airport at the beginning of a four-day official visit Tuesday.

The gesture indicates a new turn in bilateral relations after the success of the April opposition movement supported by New Delhi.

Koirala received the treatment India accorded to US President George W Bush who was greeted at the airport by an Indian prime minister in May.

Welcoming ceremonies are normally held at the forecourt of the presidential mansion for visiting heads of state and government.

Koirala and Singh are to hold official talks Wednesday.

The fragile health of Koirala was confirmed when his personal physician Dr Madhu Ghimere sat next to the government chief in a car that sped Koirala to the aircraft

from the VVIP departing lounge at the airport.

Koirala is suffering from an incurable ling disease induced by heavy smoking.

Koirala's India visit
Kathmandu, 6 June: Rumors has been spread within the political circle that PM Girija Prasad Koirala’s visit to India is an Indian intimidation. The Maoists organised a successful mass meeting in the capital city which was attended by tens and thousands of people, writes Jana Bhawana weekly.

The government, on the other hand, has denied the rumor and stated that it was Indian PM Manmohan Singh who wished for Koirala’s visit as the Indian government is keen to support Nepal for its prosperity and development works.

However, the political circle still seems suspicious regarding PM Koirala’s sudden visit of India as he was previously scheduled to visit Thailand for his medical check up.

Nepalnews.com reports hat first time in Indian history an Indian Prime Minister received a Nepalese Prime Minister at the airport. Was it really for the first time? I thought the then Indian P.M. Atal Bihari Bajpayee once received Nepalese Prime Minister (Girija, of course!) while the later visited India after Indian Airline hijack incident. Am I wrong?
