Now that the picture of the Shah ‘Die Nasty’ I mean Dynasty kings will not be featured on the future currency notes anymore. Shall we make a list of what/whose picture should grace the new bills?

In my opinion, the images of persons who have provided a face to Nepal in the world arena or who have contributed to the rich culture of Nepal or has promoted general well-being of the Nepalese in one way or the other.
Also, the pictures of unique flora/fauna, the Himalayan mountain peaks could be used.

My list would go like:

1) The Buddha
2) Tenzing Sherpa
3) Pashupatinath
4) Swoyambhu
5) Boudha
6) Mt Everest and the other peaks which are 8000 m or are simply too beautiful like Mt Machhapuchhre or Annapurna
7) The picture of the freedom fighting leaders would be nice but it’s too early as their outcome of their legacy have not materialized yet.
8) Unique flora and fauna like spiny babbler or gharial or one-horned rhino etc

What’s your take on what I just went over?

1) People are not unanimuous regarding buddha.
2) It's late for Tenzing as he's an indian citizen now.
3) Pahsupatinath, swayambhu, boudhha ok for me, but muslims and christian minorities may have problems with it.
6) Mt. Everest is not bad, but may be little late as we already sold half of it to China; and a good idea to check if they've used the other side of it in their bills yet.
7) I don't see any single eligible name to be printed on bill from so-called freedom fighters list.
8) Animals like rhinos, chitah are already on the list; they need and care about protection from poachers more than being printed on the list.

Let's see if we can have unanimous voice on any single icon.

Good list TM.
you had me thinking. i was trying to point out an individual who has/had made a real difference or has contributed to nepal and hence deserves to be iconized. unfortunately, i could not think of any. budhha and everest are too cliched, at least to my ears :P. since time immemorial we've been jabbering these two names. we need few other names to signify nepal and our pride haina?

why is there not a single hero who could be iconized????

looks like it's high time that i did something to get featured in that note of highest denomination. :P..am all charged up hahaha...

but seriously, some freedom fighters and religious/spiritual leaders(whose stories are now 100's of years old) apart, there is no one who could proudly be featured in the world arena....it's shameful !

I don't care whether buddha is printed or not. He's completely a different personality beyond any debate. But I'm glad that I don't have a problem with buddha as some people seem to have so strong opinion against it.

I argue, the only person who deserves to be sticked on rupee bills is Mr. Shankhadar Sakhwah. Do you guys know about this gentlman?

My little knowledge about him tells that he is the first person in Nepal who thought the economic revolution and economic independence of all public is very important for a happily lived society. He might have spoke that idea but the rulers of his age did not agree. He then was able to earn huge wealth somehow (mutiple versions of stories are associated with how did he actually earned the wealth) and used that wealth to free the entire population of his country (then Nepal khaldo) from their debt.

These days, if we look back and think of him, it is unbelievable how did he succeed to overcome the resistance coming from customs, believes, and rules of strict feudal system a thousand years ago. But truth is truth, he managed to free from huge debts and that was one of the huge economic revolution of our country but poorly documented in history.

In light of this extra-ordinary contribution of Shankhadar Sakhwah, he has been included in the list of BIBHUTI as well. Therefore I argue he deserves to hold the respectful place on nepalese currency who devoted his life for the economic prosperity of the entire country and people more than thousand years ago.

btw, its not mandatory to put a pic in the first place. why not leave it blank, until we find one ? :P...it would be a sweet challenge to us to prove our part and get featured...haha :P

IT iis definately ironic to have Buddha in those notes. And the most ironic thing is there is no other alternative to have him replaced. We could have our sahid in some notes but then Nepal's the only country that has 1000s of sahid and yet it is in dismay. No offense what so ever.
Could we have like SUNDHARA or DHARAHARA ,fewa taal and stuff like that..something which is not religious or deosnt signify a particular race.

And I do agree with loote that its not mandatory to put a pic in the first place. We can have sth that signifies Nepal.
Let this case not be like our national anthem case ...
Again loote sucks

How about pictures of different montains. We have enough of them to accomodate different denominations. Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Sagarmatha, Ganesh etc etc. Nepal is most known for its mountains around the world. So why not use them instead of people.
