Kathmandu : In a new twist to the growing political uncertainty in Nepal, a Madhesi party holding key to Government formation on Friday declared that it would stake its claim for heading the next administration, a move which may jeopardise the prospects of front-runner CPN-UML.
The Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF), the fourth largest party with 53 seats in the 601-strong Constituent Assembly, came up with two options for forming a coalition Government.
“We will either form the Government under our own leadership or support the CPN-UML led government from outside” but “our first priority” will be to head the next administration, Rameshwor Ray Yadav, Central Member of the party, said.
Meanwhile, desperate to block the formation of a new CPN-UML led Government, Maoists chief Prachanda on Friday met Nepali Congress president G P Koirala. Expressing his disappointment over the Nepali Congress decision to back the veteran communist party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as the next Prime Minister, Prachanda sought Koirala’s help in forming a national Government by reaching a new understanding, sources said.
Koirala, however, rebuffed Prachanda’s move to stall the formation of the CPN-UML Government. Koirala told Prachanda that the current political crisis arose after the Maoists abandoned the path of cooperation and collaboration.
