Found this quite old article in the internet. I assume many of you have already read this article. But for those who haven't read, and specially for Nepali students/aspirants of science and tech. in the US, this might be an interesting read. Apologies if this topic has been discussed in sajha before :) - http://www.fareedzakaria.com/articles/newsweek/112904.html

Newuser, Nice article by Mr.Fareed Zakaria.Well let me first talk about Zakaria himself. When Americans invaded Iraq in 2003 Mr.Newsweek was a strong endorser of the pre-emptive strike.Few times when I watched him on Charlie Rose talk show he seemed secular.Like many I trusted him and his views on war.Went so far to buy and read his book"The future of freedom".I wasn't impressed by his defense of American style democracy.Later as Americans start loosing the battle he went along with common public voicing whether they should have attacked at the first place and now is quite about his endorsements to the war.Like many Mr.Zakaria has been brain-washed too.He has finally proven himself to be a puppet. And talk about condoleeza rice/americans suspecting foreigners...and how they (americans) have exploited the mother earth earth for their own good especially the american corporations including Halliburton now taking over ministry of oil in baghdad which is coincidentally owned by cheney and rice.Well...sorry but I wasn't impressed by zakaria this time either..he still is a puppet to me.

Yeah I would listen to Fareed, but would take it with a grain of salt. I agree with Izen that in the begining he was for pre-emptive strike then latr changed his mind to go with the general consensus(but who didn't at that time he he Remember fredom fries? Now you wouldn't want that to happen to your career right he he ). That happens to all reporters. Look at Judith Miller, Bob Novak(it was funny seeing him walk off CNN show swearing when they asked him about his source on the Valery Palme case he he). Otherwise they won't be able to hold on to their jobs if they cannot reflect upon the general consensus(in other words they'd get canned he he ).

Isn't it true? Bathroomcoffee.. What a mass media-marketing can do to your brain? The greatest example of all time.American invading war. How many times were you bombarded with clips of Saddam taking over Ba'ath party in 1979 ruthlessly commanding his fellow comrades compare to Donald Rumsfield shaking hands with Hussein and making weapon deals needless to say:).That is what media can do to the general public.Freedom fries...and no french wine..are you kidding?Who wasn't fooled?Real stories never make it main stream medias that is the sad reality of the world we live in.I have completely stopped watching major news channels.None can be trusted...

Yeah especially the cable news networks here cannot be trusted. I listen to NPR, PBS, AFP, Herald tribune(oneline), and of course Al Jazeera(online for Middle east news). I was really dissapointed during the Gore vs Bush fiasco, thats when I stopped watching cable news(actually got rid of cable). As the saying goes...... TELEVISION--->DRUG OF THE NATION(cause everyone is addicted to it).

PBS my favorite TV channel when I owned that idiot box.Now that its a TV free life I have to admit I am addicted sajha.Whether it's good or bad your experience as heavy weights of sajha probably have some say. Were you disappointed that Gore lost? One of the saddest day in my life when he did.I wonder how is he doing with his current tv?Have you had chance to follow up?My well wishes are always for his good works.

Hey Izen, Did you ever see any of Joseph Campbell's programs on PBS ? Or read any of his books ? I personally consider him one of most knowledgeable philosophers on eastern culture. I understood a lotta things about our own culture that did not make sense to me before. The Masks of God: Creative Mythology (Joseph Campbell) this is one of my favorite books. Check it out.

I have watched portions of Joseph Campbell's interview based upon his book "The Power Of Myth" with Bill Moyers few years back.It wasn't until summer of 2003 that I closely paid attention to eastern philosophy which I found fascinating. Then I discovered Wayne Dyer and his self-help techniques based on the teaching of "The Bhagavad Gita" and "The Dhammapada".My limited knowledge about Campbell tells me he is a storyteller.Correct me if I am wrong.Dyer on the other hand is more like a philosopher a reincarnation of Thoreau or Emerson the source of inspirations for Gandhi.Isn't it funny how we easterners find inspirations in westerners that too on the subject of Gita and Buddhism. I will certainly check out "The Masks of God".But not until I begin and end reading Walden by Thoreau which is next in my list.
